Reframing Dementia Book Prelaunch
The Reframing Dementia Book Pre-Launch, held on March 7, 2026, at the University of Toronto, was a collaborative symposium organized by Bridging Futures Canada Society (BFCS) and the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences. Led by Dr. Jeya Thayaparan and Nirusha Thavarajah, the event brought together clinicians, students, and community members to explore innovative, person-centered approaches to dementia care.
The symposium featured the pre-launch of Reframing Dementia Care Beyond Prescription, highlighting the need for early prevention, policy reform, and community-based care. The event was enriched by contributions from Pamela Baxter and George Smitherman, and reflected a strong interdisciplinary and intergenerational approach to advancing dementia care.
Indigenous Awareness Experience Day
November 9th, 2025 - ✨ Indigenous Awareness & Community Healing Gathering | November 9, 2025 ✨
BFCS hosted a powerful gathering at the Aanian Community Centre centered on learning, healing, and reconciliation through the Blanket Exercise. Indigenous leaders, community members, and students came together to reflect on intergenerational trauma, resilience, and the importance of Indigenous awareness in strengthening inclusive and compassionate communities. The event fostered meaningful dialogue, honoured community leadership, and reaffirmed our commitment to truth, respect, and intergenerational healing.
Markham Tamil Seniors Wellness Association
October 14th, 2025 - 🌿 Intergenerational Wellness & Cultural Exchange 🌿
BFCS partnered with the Markham Tamil Seniors to host an intergenerational gathering that blended music, health education, and reflective discussion. Seniors and youth connected through shared learning, cultural expression, and meaningful dialogue, highlighting the power of intergenerational engagement in promoting community health, wisdom, and belonging.

BFCS hosted a diabetes education session for the York Seniors community, led by Dr. Logi Umaharan. The session emphasized early detection, healthy lifestyle choices, and practical self-management strategies, while fostering meaningful intergenerational engagement between seniors and BFCS student leaders. Together, we strengthened community health through shared learning and compassion.

September 21st, 2025 - 🌍 World Alzheimer’s Day – Youth Leading the Way 🌍
On September 21, 2025, BFCS marked World Alzheimer’s Day with a youth-led Open House highlighting dementia prevention as a lifelong priority that must begin years before symptoms appear. Supported by clinicians, community leaders, and academic partners, the event emphasized early education, stigma reduction, and brain-health advocacy, while honoring outstanding leadership in senior care. Together, we reaffirmed our commitment to empowering youth to lead the future of dementia prevention and community well-being.

BFCS hosted its first intergenerational session with the Richmond Hill Tamil Seniors Group, bringing seniors and youth together to share wisdom, laughter, and meaningful conversation. Through reflection, storytelling, and connection, participants highlighted the importance of lifelong learning, mindfulness, and cultural memory—marking a proud beginning to many more intergenerational moments ahead.
